Dignity ascribes value to a person and the right to be respected, simply because they are human. People are born free and equal.
Man is by nature born free and has the right to self‑determination. Everyone is free and is themselves responsible for the course of their own life.
Fairness means that everyone receives what is due to them. Fairness requires that we treat equal things equally, and different things differently.
Human dignity, freedom and fairness can only be guaranteed in a state that is secure — not only physical safety, but the sense of security we feel when satisfied with our lives.
New Slovenia (Nova Slovenija – NSi) was founded on 4 August 2000 through the merger of the Slovenian People’s Party and the Slovenian Christian Democrats, with Dr. Andrej Bajuk as its first president. The party entered the National Assembly the same year and became a full member of the European People’s Party in 2004, going on to hold ministries across finance, justice, labour and higher education.
After a difficult period outside parliament from 2008, NSi returned in December 2011 and has remained a stable centre-right force ever since, taking part in successive governing coalitions and steadily building its representation in national, local and European elections. In September 2025, Jernej Vrtovec was elected the party’s new president.
Ahead of the March 2026 elections, NSi joined forces with SLS and FOKUS on a shared list built around cooperation, stability and credible leadership. The alliance won 9.26% of the vote and 9 seats, becoming the third strongest political force in the country and joining a broader governing coalition for the 2026–2030 term.
New Slovenia is led by Jernej Vrtovec, elected party president in September 2025.
Jernej Vrtovec has been active in NSi since 2003, beginning his political path in the party’s youth wing, Mlada Slovenija, which he later led. First elected to the National Assembly in 2014, he has since become one of the party’s leading figures, serving as Minister of Infrastructure from 2020 to 2022 before being re-appointed Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Infrastructure and Energy in 2026.
Following the March 2026 elections, NSi leads a joint parliamentary group of 9 MPs together with SLS and FOKUS.
NSi is represented in the National Council, Slovenia’s upper chamber, by two state councillors.
NSi holds four ministries in the governing coalition, supported by state secretaries across each portfolio.
NSi is represented in Brussels and Strasbourg within the European People’s Party – Christian Democrats group.
